Using Photo Impact 6

Remember! Save as you go!!!!!

open a blank canvas...400 x 400
Go to path drawing tool...3d rectangle border 4...make your rectangle.
Go to your easy palette ..gallery..glass..gray 1
This will be the front piece of your lantern.
Since we are going to be using perspective with this graphic..I suggest pulling up your grid so you can watch the lines as you change them, and it will show you if you are at the right angle.
Right click the front piece you just made..duplicate it. Place it beside your front piece.

Go to transform tool..distort..
Pull up the right bottom corner..
Pull up the right top corner.

Still using the transform tool..switch to resize...and make this rectangle smaller than the first one a little bit in width.

Click on the first piece you made..
right click on it..duplicate
right click on it...arrange..send to back

You'll need the transform tool..resize to make it the same height as side piece.

Click on the side piece.
right click ...duplicate
right click ..arrange..send to back.

Place on the left side...
Now you have your box..lets make the bottom .

Go to path tool..rectangle 3d..I chose a dark color at this point so I can see how to use the transform tool.. distort to get the bottom piece to fit correctly. So do this now.

Time to apply some material..
.go to material gallery..metallic..
texture surface 2

Right click your piece..arrange..send to back..then bring foreward til you get it inside the box.

Or go to your layer manager in the easy palette and put it in the right order there by clicking on the bottom piece in the layer manager and pulling it up to where it should be.

Let's make our candle lights.
Go to path drawing tool..rounded rectangle. Choose a color you want...you'll need 3 candles that are each a little taller than the other one and one candle that is fatter.

Now lets make the light...go to path drawing tool..custom shape...raindrop.

Go to material gallery..plastic..gold 1.. right click and duplicate for each candle you made.

Put on top of your candles..hold down the shift key and select each piece of your candle..right click..either..group or merge as a single  object.

Go to pick tool..click on front piece of your glass and slide it out of the way..also slide right side out of your way.. Place each candle light in the box...if you want to add something decorative in with the candles now is the time to do so. Once that is done..slide your side piece back in place..right click it..arrange send to front..then do your front piece the same way.
Go to path drawing tool..rounded rectangle..same material as your bottom piece you made.
Make 6 of these...
Place along edges..4 will be vertical.. and in the front of the box..one will go to the back on the left corner..

take 2 of them and go to rotate and flip 90 degrees. The one on the right side you will need to fix the angle to go with the bottom edge of your side..so go to the transform  tool...distort and line them up.

The roof.
Path drawing tool..custom shape..triangle..same material as bottom again..right click it and duplicate.
Select transform tool..distort..
Place one piece over front piece of your box...its ends should extend beyond each side of it...
Select transform tool..distort..
Pull the right top point over to the right and pull the left top point into the right a little bit.
With your second triangle..this is going to be tricky.
Place it along side your other triangle that is sitting on the roof..you can see how much manipulation you are going to have to do to get this second triangle lined up along the roof correctly.
You'll have to pull the top right up and the bottom right up..This takes a lot of play with it to get it lined up right. Do a lot of pulling little by little with each point until you get it in perspective.
Your roof should now look like this.
Go to outline drawing tool..circle.
Same material as roof and bottom.

Draw you ring to go on top of your roof.

That's it you are all done!

Put a poll under it and decorate the poll..or use it as a light on the front of a house...set it on a fireplace...or fix it up as a centerpiece with greenery all around it...experiment!
