Let's make Willie the Penguin
Using Photo Impact 6
This tutorial is for intermediate users of PI



 
 


Open an image 400x400
Go to the path drawing tool, 
select elipse. draw his head 
and his body..fill it with black
border 12 depth 30..3d
it should look like the image here.
 Click on his  body..making it active.
Now go to path edit tool...click on the plus..we are going to add two points..
one on each side..click on the toggle button..add two points half way between the top one and the ones on each side..
pull each of these two in toward the body...
then pull the middle side points downward.
now your image should look like this.

Ok...go back to path drawing tool..3d..elipse..color white..border 4 depth 30..draw his head making it just a little smaller than the black one you made..
click on the black body you made ..right click duplicate it..go to the transform tool...making it a little smaller than the black body...fill with white.

Now we want to blend the head and body together..go to the pick tool..hold down the shift key,click on the white head and white body..making both active...then right click and merge as single object. Go to the blur tool
Where the head and body meat go over with the blur tool til the head and body at the neck area look like one piece.

Now lets make his arms..go to path drawing tool..custom shape..brush tip 1
color black..
Select the path edit tool...toggle..
pull in the point on the left side of his arm..and then pull it upward...
go to the point on the right side of his arm and pull it out and upward...
then go to the point at the bottom and pull it upward...
your arm should now look like this.
right click on your arm..duplicate it..
Go to edit..rotate..horizontally
Place at each of his sides.
At this point if you haven't saved your work do so now.
Also now select the pick tool..hold down the shift key and select both head pieced and the black body piece..right click and group..or merge as one object your choice.
 

Now lets make his eyes..path drawing tool..elipse..color white...repeat making a blue one slightly smaller than the white one..then make a black one..again smaller than the blue one.
Place in position.


No to make his mouth. 
Go to path drawing tool..
custom shape..brush tip 1 ...
Color a dark yellow
Make your shape large enough that you can see what you are doing ..

Select path edit tool..toggle..
Pull in the point on the left..so the shape is very thin. 
Then pick the top point and pull it up and over to the left...
Pick the right pick point of the top point and pull it downward..

Use the transform tool to size it down to what you need.

Use the transform tool to rotate it so it is like the picture of the finished mouth at the left.

Right click and duplicate it..go to edit ..rotate and flip horizontally.

Duplicate again..this time rotate and flip vertically and horizontally to make the full  mouth.

Go to pick tool..hold down shift key..select the 4 pieces of your mouth..right click merge as single object.
your shape should look like this.
It should have a diamond shape in the middle of the mouth

Go to path drawing tool..select the diamond shape..dark red...
border 9 depth 30
Draw your diamond shape..to fit inside the mouth..right click ..send to back place in the center of your mouth..

Click on the outside of the mouth you made and the diamond you just made..activating the 2 pieces..right click..merge as single object..

put in place.
 
Give him some eyelashes..Go to line and arrow tool..color black..width 1..3d
Click around the eyes drawing your eyelashes.


Lets give him some blush..go to the airbrush tool..size 10...color pink

Click on the mode button to make your paint an object...put blush on his cheeks..once done..reclick the mode button .

 

Now lets make his hat..go to path drawing tool..color red..3d..elipse..draw a oval to fit over the top of his head.
.now we want to get it to lay against his head..so go to path edit tool..toggle..pull the two end points down so they touch the side of his head..pull the middle lower point up so more of his forehead shows.
Go to path drawing tool..custom shape ..triangle..make it long enough to go across his head..use the transform tool to size it down..
Go to path edit tool..toggle..pull both side end points down to the other hat shape you made..pull up the middle point a little bit. unclick toggle
with pick tool..right click send to back.
Go to path drawing tool..custom shape..3d..brush tip one.
draw a long one..use transform tool to make it the size you need it to be and to make it thinner..click edit rotate and flip horizontally.

Click path edit tool...toggle..click on the top point and drag it over to the left.
So it lays across the side of his hat.

Now you can decorate him up to suit your fancy.. I made a book for my penguin to hold.

To save all parts as a ufo...hold down ctrl/shirt/A keys all parts will activate..right click and group...to save as a ufo or drag to your easy palette....or right click and merge as single object and save.
