Background

My name is Wade Oliver. I have a B.S. in Elementary Education from Indiana University / Purdue University at Fort Wayne Indiana. I am currently working on my M.S. degree in Educational Computing and Instructional Design at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. My goal as a lifelong learner is to examine and explore technology, and its infusion in future education.

Recent Projects

MCM's or (Murdock Computer Masters). This project involved computer training of students in grades 3-5 at Murdock Elementary in West Lafayette, Indiana. Students learn to become technology leaders in their school by becoming more familiar with computers and how they work.

A second project involved NASA's K-12 Initiative internet site. Two years ago I was part of On-Line from Jupiter, an interactive web site which allowed students to pose questions to the NASA experts in charge of the mission here on earth. The mission focused on the deployment of the Galileo space probe into Jupiter's atmosphere. My job was to serve as a "Questions Filter" liaison between educators and NASA experts. This year I will be working with educators and NASA on two new projects, "Live from Mars" and " S/MORE - Shuttle-MIR Online Research Experience." Both projects will involve classroom interactive projects which you and your class can participate in. I encourage you and your students to take a look at these two sites.

Current Projects

I also maintain the Educational Launch Pad. This is a continually evolving project in which I have attempted to build a web site which students, teachers, and parents will find useful. Wading through all the information available on the web can sometimes be overwhelming, and frustrating, so I have tried to list some good starting points. The final destination of the Launch Pad has yet to be determined. I am constantly searching for a focus that will best serve the intended audience.

Finally, I am also working on a curriculum designed to train elementary and secondary students how to best utilize the resources available to them on the Internet. I hope to be teaching these classes in the summer of 1998. This project is a collaborative effort between Fort Wayne Internet and myself. Feel free to send along any similar curriculum designs you are aware of.
